Nicole Richie has been unsuccessful in her attempts to fight her extreme weight loss and now she's turning to professionals for help.
"Nicole Richie has decided to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she's not been putting on any weight," says her rep in a statement issued to People. "She is working with a team of doctors and specialists whose focus is nutrition. It is important to Nicole that she achieves this goal in a healthy way as this is not a treatment for an eating disorder."
The celebutante's skeletal frame has been under scrutiny for a while, and Richie has tried eating fatty food such as "salty cheese-and-grease kind of stuff" and burritos.
In an earlier Vanity Fair interview, she expressed her weight loss worries: "I know I'm too thin right now, so I wouldn't want any young girl looking at me and saying, 'That's what I want to look like. I do know that they will, which is another reason I really do need to do something about it. I'm not happy with the way I look right now."
Although she had consulted a nutritionist and doctor at the time, she acknowledged that part of her problem was the stress from breaking up with her then-fiancee, Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein.
Richie, 25, and her "Simple Life" co-star Paris Hilton are once again BFFs after a period of estrangement. They plan on starring in a fifth season of the E! reality show that will begin shooting in mid-November.
