Writer Cheo Hodari Coker, whose "Notorious" followed the life of late rap star Notorious B.I.G., has been tapped to write a similar biopic about supergroup Run-DMC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story will follow the Bill Adler book "Tougher Than Leather: The Rise of Run-DMC -- The Authorized Biography," which has been optioned by DJ Classicz. A release date has not yet been set.
Run-DMC, the Queens-based trio of Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels and Jason Mizell, broke hip-hop into mainstream music with hits like "It's Tricky" and the Aerosmith remake/collaboration "Walk This Way." There's an unhappy ending to the story: Jam Master Jay was shot to death in 2002.
