First he was "Notorious." Now he'll have to be tougher than leather.
Writer Cheo Hodari Coker, whose "Notorious" followed the life of late rap star Notorious B.I.G., has been tapped to write a similar biopic about supergroup Run-DMC. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the story will follow the Bill Adler book "Tougher Than Leather: The Rise of Run-DMC -- The Authorized Biography," which has been optioned by DJ Classicz. A release date has not yet been set.
Run-DMC, the Queens-based trio of Joseph Simmons, Darryl McDaniels and Jason Mizell, broke hip-hop into mainstream music with hits like "It's Tricky" and the Aerosmith remake/collaboration "Walk This Way." There's an unhappy ending to the story: Jam Master Jay was shot to death in 2002.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
