'October Road' May Lead to Renewal

A pair of recurring actors have been bumped up to cast-regular status on ABC's "October Road."

That may not mean much in the short term, considering the first-year drama ends its season in a couple of days. But it does portend a possibly bright future for the series.

Rebecca Field, who plays Janet on "October Road," and Lindy Booth, who plays the as yet nameless Pizza Girl, have earned regular status, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Both have been billed as guest stars thus far.

Making the two actresses regulars will keep them committed to the series should it return for the 2007-08 season; they would otherwise have been free to audition for other projects this pilot season. ABC hasn't made a decision on whether "October Road" will make the cut for next season, but the move does seem like a tipoff that the show has a future.

The network did something similar with "What About Brian" last year, picking up that show after a late start and only six episodes on the air, even though its ratings were considerably lower than "Road's."

Aided by having "Grey's Anatomy" as a lead-in, "October Road" has averaged 10.6 million viewers per week in its first five airings. It also scores a 4.4 rating in the key adults 18-49 demographic, placing it among the top 30 series this season.

The show's season finale airs at 10 p.m. ET Thursday (April 26).
