Fall's Ones to Watch

One if by land. Two if by sea. Three if by the 2007-08 television season. Paul Revere was a fine silversmith and a true patriot, but as a prognosticator of future pop culture trends he fell disappointingly short. Yes, Revere may have been able to warn his fellow Bostonians that the British were coming on that chilly morning in 1775, but he had no way of predicting this fall's British Invasion. If you don't recognize the star of your new favorite fall series, maybe you ought to be watching more reruns on the BBC, or perhaps you just aren't familiar with the flat, well-coached American accents coming out of their mouths. NBC alone has given lead roles to a trio of thespians under Queen Elizabeth II's regal umbrella -- Michelle Ryan, Kevin McKidd and Damian Lewis -- and we won't even mention the Aussie lass with the Polish last name (Yvonne Strzechowski) playing the female lead in "Chuck." Of course, not all of our Ones to Watch arrive on American tellys fresh from meals of bangers-and-mash and bottles of Newcastle. No, we're highlighting several actors making the leap from supporting roles to toplining some of the fall's hottest shows, plus one man best known for comedy being asked to carry an emotional drama set in the wake of Hurricane Katrina.
