World Trade Center Opens Wide: Wednesday, August 9 This blurb is being written before "United 93" opens on April 28. That film, the first studio production to tackle the events of Sept. 11, 2001, will either open the door wide for Oliver Stone's risky film, or else it may salt the Earth entirely. The prospects of "World Trade Center" may rest on Nicolas Cage's star power. The Oscar winner plays John McLoughlin a New York Port Authority cop trapped in the ruins of the WTC along with fellow cop Will Jimeno (Michael Pena). The movie focuses on the effort to rescue the two men, as well as their families waiting in terror at home. Much of the interest, of course, will be in the normally conspiracy-minded Stone, but the acclaimed director has promised that accuracy will be his main priority, rather than conjecture.
