Still awaiting domestic release, "Quantum of Solace" is already a worldwide sensation.
Playing in 60 countries on 9,870 screens, the latest James Bond thriller pulled in a whopping $106.5 million at the foreign box office for the weekend ending Sunday, Nov. 9. The Daniel Craig vehicle delivered the year's second biggest international weekend behind only the $146.6 opening weekend for " Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
"Quantum of Solace" broke opening weekend records in Switzerland, Finland, United Arab Emirates, Nigeria, Romania and Slovenia. According to Variety, the flick's $9.1 million Chinese debut was the second largest ever for a non-Chinese release.
To date, "Quantum of Solace" has made $160.3 million foreign, with its domestic debut coming on Friday.
"High School Musical 3" finished second in the foreign marketplace with a $13.6 weekend playing in 32 territories. The film have now taken in $109.4 million foreign.
" Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa," the domestic box office champ, was third foreign with a $9.2 million weekend, bringing its foreign total to $40.2 million in only four territories.Copyright © 2014, Los Angeles Times
