ABC Rolls to Sunday Win

Fast National ratings for Sunday, March 12, 2006

Up against an original episode of "The Sopranos" for the first time Sunday, "Desperate Housewives" didn't draw quite as large an audience as it usually does. But that audience was still pretty big, helping ABC to a sizable ratings win.

ABC averaged a 10.8 rating/17 share for the night, finishing far ahead of its closest competitor, CBS (6.8/11). NBC finished third at 6.2/10. FOX, 5.2/8, was fourth, and The WB trailed with a 1.2/2.

In the adults 18-49 demographic, ABC's 7.4 rating was nearly double that of second-place FOX, 3.8. CBS, 2.7, edged NBC, 2.6, for third. The WB managed only a 0.7.

CBS won the 7 p.m. hour "60 Minutes," 7.7/13. A late-ending NASCAR race on FOX scored a 6.4/11 (West Coast viewers saw reruns of "Malcolm in the Middle" and "King of the Hill"). The first half of a two-hour "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition" was third for ABC at 6.1/10. "Dateline" took fourth for NBC, while The WB went with something called "The JammX Kids All-Star Dance Special."

At 8 p.m., CBS' "Cold Case," 9.6/15, led the pack in households, but the second hour of "EM: Home Edition," 9.5/15, had more total viewers. FOX dropped to third with "The Simpsons," 5.8/9, and "The War at Home," 4.4/7. "The West Wing" was fourth for NBC at 4.6/7. The WB aired a "Charmed" rerun.

"Desperate Housewives," 13.6/20, fell a little below its season average at 9 p.m. but still dominated the hour. NBC jumped up to second with "Law & Order: Criminal Intent," 7.9/12. CBS aired the movie "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days." FOX fell one more spot to fourth with "Family Guy," 4.7/7, and "Free Ride," 3.4/5. A second episode of "Charmed" closed the night for The WB.

At 10 p.m., "Grey's Anatomy" drew the night's biggest audience with a 13.9/22. "Crossing Jordan" posted a 7.0/11 for NBC, and CBS' movie came in at 4.7/8.
