ABC Romps Again on Sunday

The combination of "Desperate Housewives" and "Grey's Anatomy" carried ABC to the ratings title Sunday, with "Grey's" retaking the most-watched crown from its lead-in.

ABC earned a 9.6 rating/16 share for the night, easily beating CBS' 7.6/12. NBC finished third at 5.9/10. FOX, 4.1/7, came in fourth, and The WB trailed with a 1.5/3.

The Alphabet also dominated the adults 18-49 ratings, scoring a 6.4 rating. FOX grabbed second in the ad-friendly demographic with a 3.2. CBS finished third with a 2.9, followed by NBC, 2.5, and The WB, 0.9.

CBS started the night on top as "60 Minutes" averaged 7.5/14 at 7 p.m. NBC's "Dateline," 4.8/9, was second in households, although ABC's "America's Funniest Home Videos," 4.6/8, had more total viewers. FOX averaged 2.9/5 with a "Simpsons" rerun and "King of the Hill." The WB aired an hour of "Reba."

"Cold Case," 9.3/15, kept CBS in the lead at 8 p.m. ABC moved into sole possession of second with "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition." The penultimate episode of "The West Wing" posted a 5.1/8 for NBC. "The Simpsons," 5.1/8, and a "Family Guy" rerun," 4.8/8, trailed NBC by a little in households but brought in more viewers. "Charmed" posted a 2.0/3 for The WB.

At 9 p.m., "Desperate Housewives" moved ABC into first place in a big way, delivering a 13.2/20. NBC's "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" and a "CSI: Miami" rerun on CBS tied for second at 6.7/10. A second "Family Guy," 5.0/8, and "American Dad," 3.9/6, closed out FOX's night. The WB went with another episode of "Charmed."

"Grey's Anatomy" improved a little on its lead-in, scoring the night's biggest audience with a 13.5/21 at 10 p.m. The season finale of "Crossing Jordan," 7.1/11, was second for NBC, edging CBS' "CSI: NY" repeat, 7.0/11.
