TV Ratings: Sunday Night Is Football night

The New York Giants' second straight "Sunday Night Football" appearance gave NBC its second straight Sunday-night ratings victory.

NBC averaged an 8.5 rating/14 share for the night (with the live NFL telecast, those numbers will change some). CBS, 6.8/11, came in second, well ahead of FOX's 4.6/7 and ABC's 4.0/6. The CW drew a 0.8/1.

NBC also ruled the adults 18-49 demographic with a 4.8 rating. FOX took second in the key ad demo with a 3.0. CBS, 2.0, came in third, followed by ABC, 1.9, and The CW, 0.4.

CBS started the night on top with "60 Minutes" drawing an 8.3/14 at 7 p.m. FOX's late-afternoon NFL games and "The OT" averaged 7.0/12 (and led the 18-49 demo for the hour). An "America's Funniest Home Videos" repeat, 4.3/7, on ABC narrowly beat NBC's "Football Night in America," 4.2/7, for third. The CW was well back with its "Jericho" encore.

The Giants-Carolina Panthers game on "Sunday Night Football" earned a 9.0/14 at 8 p.m. CBS fell back to second with "Million Dollar Password," 6.0/10. A rerun of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," 4.1/7, put ABC in third. FOX averaged 3.5/5 with "The Simspons" and "King of the Hill." The CW aired the movie "Three Amigos."

NBC improved to 10.2/16 at 9 p.m. with the NFL broadcast. "Cold Case" scored a 7.6/12 for CBS. A second hour of "EM: Home Edition" held steady for ABC, while FOX finished its night with "Family Guy," 3.5/5, and "American Dad," 3.0/5. "Three Amigos" drew a 0.9/1 for The CW.

At 10 p.m., "Sunday Night Football" ticked up slightly to 10.3/17 for NBC. "The Unit" posted a 5.2/8 for CBS, while a "Desperate Housewives" repeat on ABC delivered a 3.4/6.
