Viewers Watch CBS on Christmas Eve

'Twas the night before Christmas and very few people were watching TV, though CBS and ABC can claim small victories if they so desire.

Overall, CBS averaged a 3.2 rating/7 share, just beating the 2.7/6 for NBC and ABC's 2.6/6. FOX was fourth with a 1.6/4 and The CW's 0.8/2 trailed.

ABC won among adults 18-49, doing a 1.6 rating in the key demographic. CBS and NBC were close behind with 1.5 ratings, leaving The CW in last again with a 0.4 rating.

NBC had a 2.4/6 for "It's a Wonderful Life" to take the 8 p.m. hour in an essential dead heat with the 2.4/5 for CBS' "How I Met Your Mother" and "Big Bang Theory" and the 2.3/5 for "How the Grinch Stole Christmas" on ABC. FOX had a 1.5/4 for the first hour of "Cheaper by the Dozen" on FOX, while The CW was fifth with "Everybody Hates Chris" and "Aliens in America."

CBS moved into the lead to stay at 9 p.m. with "Two and a Half Men" (3.6/8) and "Rules of Engagement" (3.0/7). ABC's "Madagascar" was second with a 2.7/6, nipping NBC's holiday classic for second. FOX's movie improved slightly in its second hour and still beat the 0.8/2 averaged by "Girlfriends" and "The Game" on The CW.

At 10 p.m., CBS got a powerhouse 4.0/9 for "CSI: Miami," which was the night's top-rated show. NBC's "It's a Wonderful Live" was up to a 3.1/7 in its final hour, bettering the 2.9/7 for ABC's "Madagascar."
