'Private Practice' star and Tony-winning wife expecting

Maybe Taye Diggs can enlist his "Private Practice" co-star Kate Walsh for her medical expertise for the new off-Broadway project he and Idina Menzel are collaborating on.

The couple is expecting their first child together later this year, reports Usmagazine.com.

Diggs, 38, performed in the 1996 Broadway production when he first met co-star Menzel, 37. They dated for seven years before tying the knot in January 2003.

Previous to the child, the couple has shared parenting duties for a Yorkshire terrier and two cats.

Menzel won a Tony for playing the lead, Elphaba, in "Wicked," the musical adaptation of the Gregory Maguire novel about the untold story of the Wicked Witch of the West. Besides a busy theater career, Menzel has appeared on the big screen in "Kissing Jessica Stein," "Enchanted" and "Rent."

Diggs currently plays internal medicine specialist Dr. Sam Bennett on ABC's "Private Practice," the spinoff of "Grey's Anatomy" that stars Walsh as a neonatal surgeon and OB/GYN.
