Death is the Christmas Cliche of TV dramas. It doesn't matter that most of the death-themed episodes are well-done and powerful. Whether it's Hawkeye Pierce dressed as Santa Claus on the front lines ("M*A*S*H") or Toby organizing a funeral for a Korean war vet ("The West Wing") or a plane dismantling a street celebration ("Desperate Housewives"), death is a popular device to trot out during the holiday season to put our tear ducts into overdrive. Fa-la-la-la-la-la-la-la-sniffle. Other offenders: "ER," "House," "Pushing Daisies," "Six Feet Under," "The Twilight Zone"
