With Star Jones out of the picture, and Rosie O'Donnell not yet in it, "The View" is returning to an old trick to fill out its couch: a rotating corps of celebrity guest hosts.
Singer, actress and "America's Got Talent" judge Brandy already has accepted an invitation to guest-host the ABC daytime show, appearing twice this week. Next week, the Barbara Walters-produced show will look to the network's reality hit "Dancing with the Stars" for help.
Carrie Ann Inaba, a "Dancing" judge and choreographer, will take a seat alongside Walters, Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck on Monday. The next day, "General Hospital" and inaugural "Dancing with the Stars" winner Kelly Monaco will serve as a guest co-host.
Later in July, "American Idol" runner-up Katharine McPhee and actress Shannen Doherty are scheduled to take turns on the couch, USA Today reports.
Meanwhile, the fallout from Jones' unexpected, pre-emptive announcement of her departure of the show, and Walters' subsequent sacking of her, wears on. This week Jones posted contact information for Walters and ABC executives on her web site, urging users to complain about her dismissal (as of Friday, the information had been removed).
"The View" will probably take its time in finding a permanent replacement for Jones, whose contract wasn't going to be renewed for the 2006-07 season. O'Donnell is set to join the show in the fall; she's replacing Meredith Vieira, who left for NBC's "Today."Copyright © 2015, Los Angeles Times
