Zellweger, Connick Beached in 'Miami'

Renee Zellweger and Harry Connick Jr. are in negotiations to play the leads in the romantic comedy "Chilled in Miami."

Financed by Gold Circle Films, the project will be directed by Danish helmer Jonas Elmer. Variety helpfully tells us that Elmer's most recent film, 2005's "Nynne," was dubbed the Danish "Bridget Jones."

How fortunate, then, that Elmer will have cinema's own Bridget Jones playing his new lead, a Miami businesswoman who's transferred to a new job in rural Minnesota.

Ken Rance and C. Jay Cox wrote the script. There's no word on what role Connick will play, but our hunch is that he plays a rural Minnesota native who initially repels Zellweger's character, but eventually comes to win her over with his rough charms.

Zellweger, an Oscar winner for "Cold Mountain," will shoot "Chilled" after co-starring with Viggo Mortensen in the Ed Harris-directed "Appaloosa." More recently seen (by a dozen people) in "Miss Potter," Zellweger has "Bee Movie" and "Leatherheads" opening this fall.

Connick has "P.S., I Love You" on tap for release later in the year. the singer and "Will & Grace" co-star was last spotted in this summer's "Bug."
