Jackie Gleason was the funny guy with the cigar and smirk offscreen and the "bang-zoom" on air. Separate from the threat of violence to Alice every week on " The Honeymooners," Gleason was loud, obnoxious, yet humble and caring. He brought laughs from a studio apartment in NY on a bus man's salary. Not an easy task, but he did it with panache. And then when he went the way of the law on "Smokey and the Bandit." he really showed us why he's funnyman royalty.
