Dodgers rally past Padres, 8-6

KEY MOMENT: The Dodgers were trailing, 3-2, until they scored three runs in the fourth inning to move in front, 5-3. Matt Kemp, who led off the inning with a double, scored on a double by Justin Turner. Carl Crawford, who reached base on a walk, scored on a sacrifice fly by A.J. Ellis. Turner scored on an error by Padres first baseman Jake Goebbert.

ON THE MOUND: Kevin Correia couldn’t repeat his solid performance from his first Dodgers start, as he was charged with four runs and eight hits over five innings. Correia served up a three-run home run to Jedd Gyorko in the first inning. He gave up six more hits over the next four innings, but managed to limit the Padres to only one more run.

AT THE PLATE: Crawford was three for three with a home run, a walk, three runs batted in and three runs scored. His two-run home run in the seventh inning extended the Dodgers’ lead to 8-4 and essentially put the game out of the Padres’ reach. Over his last nine games, Crawford is batting .500 (16 for 32). Kemp and Turner each had two hits and runs, with Turner hitting a pair of doubles and driving in two runs.

MEDICAL REPORT: Hyun-Jin Ryu, who is sidelined with a strained buttock muscle, played catch with trainer Stan Conte and third baseman Juan Uribe. “He’s basically playing catch, keeping his arm moving,” Manager Don Mattingly said. Mattingly didn’t offer a timetable for Ryu’s return.
