Update: Although Major League Soccer, Chivas USA’s caretaker owner, hasn’t made an official announcement, Sunday’s game at StubHub Center is almost certain to be the last in the team’s short and turbulent history. MLS said the team, purchased by the league in February, will be sold by December and the new owners are expected to sit out next season while the franchise undergoes a rebranding and searches for a new home in Southern California. That leaves Chivas players with some pressing business in their final game because a win over San Jose would allow them to finish the season outside the Western Conference cellar for the first time in three years. A victory would also give Chivas nine wins, the most in a season since 2009. But Chivas enters the season finale last in the league in goals with 28, tied for worst with 61 goals allowed and with a league high for both goal differential (minus 33) and losses (19).
