NBA Roundup : Former Maverick Helps Denver Win

Elston Turner burned his former Dallas teammates with two key baskets and a steal in the stretch as the Denver Nuggets held off the Mavericks, 113-111, Monday night at Denver for their 17th straight home-court victory.

The Nuggets held Dallas scoreless in the final 3:25 and scored the last seven points of the game.

Denver trailed, 111-106, when Turner hit a jump shot and then stole the ball. Dan Issel then scored to cut the lead to 111-110 with 2:04 left. Turner, traded to Denver last summer after three years in Dallas, followed Alex English’s miss with a rebound basket with 38 seconds to play for the winning points.

Dallas had a two chances to tie, but Wayne Cooper blocked a shot by Jay Vincent and Calvin Natt batted away Brad Davis’ shot as time expired.

Mark Aguirre scored 30 points and Rolando Blackman had 23 for Dallas.

Natt scored 29 points and English added 28 for Denver, which moved 3 1/2 games ahead of Houston in the Midwest Division.

Utah 136, Golden State 125--Adrian Dantley scored 35 points, 28 of them in the second half, and Darrell Griffith added 31 to lead the Utah Jazz past the Warriors at Salt Lake City.

The Jazz led, 60-53, at the half, then outscored the Warriors, 42-37, in the third quarter to take command.
