Santa Ana Downs Yuba City, 6-4

It took four pitchers, but Santa Ana College defeated Yuba College, 6-4, in the second day of round robin play in the West Los Angeles Tournament at Loyola Marymount in Westchester.

The Dons’ starting pitcher Ed Caulderon was relieved in the third inning by Marty Martinez, who pitched until the seventh. Mike Sanders relieved Martinez in the seventh and was credited with the victory, though Gary Piper pitched the final inning.

Santa Ana (16-6) scored in the second inning on Gary Thomason’s two-run single. In the fourth inning, the Dons’ Neil Evans tripled to score one run and in the sixth Bob Cassidy stole home to put Santa Ana ahead, 4-1.

Yuba scored one run in the third inning and three in the sixth, to tie it at 4-4. But in the eighth, Cassidy sacrificed and Evans singled to drive in two runs.

The Dons’ next game is 10 o’clock today at El Camino College in Torrance.
