The State - News from April 4, 1985
More than 500 San Franciscans have died of AIDS since it was first detected in mid-1981. The city’s Public Health Department said there have been 193 new cases of acquired immune deficiency syndrome and 103 deaths during the first three months of 1985. The department noted that this is nearly three times as many deaths and nearly double the number of new cases as occurred in the same period a year ago. San Francisco has the highest per capita AIDS rate of any city in the nation.
