Marriott Corp. reported that an 18% boost in revenue to $874.2 million helped net income jump to $27.7 million, a 20% increase over the first three months of 1984.

“We are off to a strong start in 1985 and we feel very good about our overall prospects for the year,” Marriott President J. W. Marriott said in a statement.

First-quarter 1984 earnings were $23 million on revenue of $743.9 million.

Business in all of Marriott’s major lines--lodging, contract food services and restaurants--was up, with contract food services leading the way with a 27% gain in sales and 26% increase in operating income through the March 22 reporting period. Marriott credited an increase in passenger traffic on the nation’s airlines and the addition of two new subsidiaries, Gladieux Corp. and Service Systems Corp., with the boost.
