Sports DIGEST : Larry White Released to Dodgers’ AAA Team
Larry White, a former Pierce College and San Fernando High pitcher who was put on waivers Sunday by the Dodgers, was not claimed by any other organization and has been outrighted to the Dodgers’ AAA affiliate in Albuquerque.
White was the Dodgers’ last roster cut after apparently making the major league team by posting a 2.40 earned-run average this spring.
He appeared in two games of the recent Freeway Series with the Angels, pitching a total of three innings. He allowed 2 earned runs, 6 hits and 3 walks--and was credited with the win in the series finale last Sunday.
With the demotion, the Dodgers have used up all of their options on White. While pitching for Albuquerque, he must clear waivers to be re-called.
He also may be purchased by other major league clubs at any time.
White was originally drafted by the Cleveland Indians and was acquired by the Dodgers as part of the trade for former Dodger Rick Sutcliffe, the 1984 Cy Young Award winner who is now with the Chicago Cubs.
