Beth Daniel shot her second 70 Friday to take a three-stroke lead with a 140 total after two rounds of the $175,000 Kyocera Inamori ladies’ golf tournament.

Tied for second were Amy Alcott, Charlotte Montgomery and Pat Bradley.

Daniel made it look easy for a while as she pulled away from the pack at Fairbanks Ranch.

She birdied two of her first three holes plus the seventh and made the turn in three-under-par 33.

She then stumbled slightly on the back nine, with just one birdie, and bogeys on Nos. 14 and 18.

“On the first side, I probably played as well as I’m ever going to play,” Daniel said. “I hit a bad tee shot on 13, and that was probably the first bad shot I hit.

“I was a little disappointed. I was playing really, really well. I felt I could run away with the golf tournament.”

Alcott moved into a tie for second place when she collected three birdies and holed a 6-iron from 162 yards away for an eagle-2 to offset five bogeys and finish at 72 for the day.

Montgomery, a Swede who now lives in Fort Myers, Fla., provided the fireworks in the morning by shooting a 68.

Montgomery’s putter did the job as she finished her last five holes with single putts.

Bradley, who shared the lead with Daniel after Thursday’s opening round, seemed headed for disaster in the early going Friday.

Bradley had a pair of double bogeys but balanced them with three birdies to finish with a 73.
