A Soviet Bloc summit meeting is likely to be held in Warsaw on April 26 or 27 to renew the seven-nation Warsaw Pact treaty, which expires May 14, the Guardian reported in Britain. The meeting is also expected to deal with East-West issues. Renewal of the pact had been expected later, but the date was reportedly moved up because of a series of major events in May, including observance of the 40th anniversary of Nazi Germany’s defeat in World War II.
