Local News in Brief : Traffic Routes Will Be Shifted for Renaissance Faire-Goers

Special weekend traffic-control measures will go into effect today in Agoura Hills to handle an expected 10,000-car-per-day traffic increase caused by the opening of the Renaissance Pleasure Faire, authorities said Friday.

About a dozen California Highway Patrol officers and Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies will be on duty in the vicinity of the spring carnival, which begins its annual six-weekend run today at the Old Paramount Ranch.

Officials said they would close some streets to keep the event’s traffic from mixing with traffic headed toward the beach at Malibu.

Motorists heading to the event from the San Fernando Valley will be directed off the Ventura Freeway at Chesebro Road, said sheriff’s traffic Sgt. Kevin Mauch. San Fernando Valley area motorists headed for the beach should use Topanga Canyon Boulevard, Las Virgenes or Kanan roads, he said.

“We’re asking people to follow the signs and not go the way they think they ought to go in Agoura Hills during the fair,” Mauch said.

Officer Kenn Rosenberg, a spokesman for the California Highway Patrol’s West Valley office in Woodland Hills, said Cornell Road would be closed at Sideway Road. Turns will be prohibited from Kanan Road onto Sideway Road.

Malibu Lake-area residents will also encounter detours when traveling in and out of their community, he said.

The 23-year-old Renaissance Pleasure Faire will be staged through June 2.
