The Salvation Army and Gideons International have been banished from a military induction center for preaching to inductees and disrupting operations, an Army major said Thursday.

“Handing out gifts is one thing, but the proselytizing and getting in the way was not efficient and proper,” said Maj. John F. Dunn, 42, commander of the center, which processes inductees for all branches of the military. Representatives of both groups deny that they preached to inductees.
