The World : 249 Killed in Hurricane
A hurricane struck the southern coast and offshore islands of Bangladesh, killing at least 249 people, flattening homes and destroying crops. More than 170 bodies were found in Noakhali district at the mouth of the Ganges River, and unofficial reports put the toll there at 600. Officials in the port of Chittagong said 130 fishermen were feared drowned when their boat sank in the Bay of Bengal.
