Home resales in California rose 21.3% in April.

In a reversal of the trend of declining activity for the first three months of the year, last month’s resales rose to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 408,611 units, up from 336,963 units reported for March, the California Assn. of Realtors reported. Home resales, however, remained just slightly below the 410,664 units posted in April, 1984, a decrease of 0.5%. “Boosted by lower mortgage interest rates, the second quarter promises to outdistance the first three months,” said Raymond D. Spinelli, president of the 100,000-member real estate association. Home resales in California for the first quarter of 1985 averaged 355,456 units, a 3.9% decrease from the 369,751 units posted during the first quarter of 1984. The statewide median priced home in April increased for the third consecutive month to $114,648, up 0.6% from $113,956 in March but down 1% from $115,780 posted in April, 1984.
