The 18 leading defense contractors working on the MX nuclear missile and “Star Wars” research gave $2.3 million to House candidates in 1983-1984, a report said Wednesday.

The analysis was prepared by the private Center on Budget and Policy Priorities.

Much of the money went to congressmen on two key committees, the study said, listing 18 members of the Armed Services Committee or the Appropriations defense subcommittee among the 25 receiving the most money.

The analysis said 435 Democratic candidates got $1.28 million while 409 Republican candidates for the House received $1.04 million.
