Radio station KBZT-FM (94.9) has been sold for a record $9.7 million to Sandusky Broadcasting, a division of Sandusky Newspapers of Ohio. The sale by Alta Broadcasting of San Jose was announced by Toney Brooks, president of Sandusky’s Denver-based broadcasting division.

“It was a better return on our investment than we could make with our (other companies),” Alta chairman James Levitt said. “We got bombarded by a lot of offers this year, and the dollar value of the offers got us interested.”

Sandusky Newspapers, which owns six FM and two AM stations in the West and Midwest, plans no changes with the adult-contemporary station, known as K-Best 95. “We’re very comfortable with the format and the staff currently in San Diego,” Brooks said. The sale must be approved by the Federal Communications Commission, a process that normally takes about 90 days.
