Placentia : 3 Juveniles Arrested on Mischief Charges

Placentia police say they have cracked a major mischief case involving 39 shattered car windshields and residential windows in the city over the past two months.

Three juveniles have been arrested on suspicion of 39 cases of malicious mischief, a misdemeanor, and the city will also seek a warrant for the arrest of a 19-year-old Fullerton man on similar charges, Investigator Roger Gisler said.

About 24 windshields, car mirrors and home windows were smashed or shattered in June and 15 more in July by youths armed with a high-powered slingshot and an air rifle, Gisler said. The youths used pellets and homemade projectiles fashioned from nuts and bolts for ammunition, driving through the neighborhood and shooting randomly, he said, adding:

“One of the boys stated he just had nothing better to do.”

Gisler said police and property owners estimated total damage at about $5,000. Police were able to locate the youths when a Placentia woman identified a car belonging to one of them.
