A Panamanian accused of cashing more than $500,000 worth of counterfeit traveler’s checks throughout the United States was captured by a San Jose clothing store sales clerk after a fellow employee recognized the suspect from a crime bulletin, police said. Alison Barbieri, 17, spotted Carlos Bartolo Castillo, 35, when he attempted to cash a check. Barbieri told salesman Joseph Walker, 23, who followed Castillo out the store and held him for police. A Santa Clara County sheriff’s spokesman said Castillo apparently came to the United States about once a month to cash phony checks.
