Baby Means Higher Rent

Share

Effective Aug. 1 the rent in our North Hollywood apartment is being raised an additional 10% above the annual increases allowed under the city’s Rent Stabilization ordinance. This is because we just had our second child and a section of the ordinance allows for an up to 10% increase for each new occupant.

For a city to legally allow landlords to penalize people for having children is a disgrace and brings into queston Los Angeles’ true feelings towards its future: the children and families of this city. What is worse is that the additional money received by the owners does not come back into the building in terms of improved or even the same level of maintenance. Instead it just goes to line their pockets.

I believe that all families in this city should contact the mayor and City Council to correct this injustice in the ordinance.
