‘The Fires of Creationism’

Share

Your editorial on the threat of creationists who recklessly ignore both science and the wisdom of American separation of church from state, is very timely.

I just had a daughter and shudder at the thought of creationists weaseling their way into her class and teaching her ignorant nonsense from the Dark Ages. Robert G. Ingersoll once said, “When science was an infant, religion tried to strangle it in its cradle.” Servitus and Bruno were burned at the stake, Galileo imprisoned, and Darwin ridiculed.

We must not allow fundamentalists to strangle the reasoning minds of our children so they can be infected with ancient superstitions. We must be vigilant in our protection of our freedoms, including freedom from imposed religion. I thank The Times for an enlightened and courageous editorial.
