Capt. David L. Andrews is the new commanding officer of the Coast Guard Air Station and Group in San Diego, replacing Capt. Walter R. Glenning, who stepped down to begin a new job in Long Beach, a Coast Guard spokesman said.

Andrews, a 1963 graduate of the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn., worked in the Pentagon as a liaison officer for personnel in the office of the Secretary of Defense, said Coast Guard Lt. Gilbert Flores.

Andrews is the 23rd commanding officer for the 49-year-old station. He will command about 220 men in San Diego, Flores said.

Glenning, commanding officer since July, 1982, will be an inspector for the 11th Coast Guard District. He will be in charge of quality control at Coast Guard bases and air stations throughout Southern California, Flores said.

About 300 people attended the change of command ceremony Thursday at the station.
