Cubans Head Field in Baseball Tourney
The powerful Cuban national team heads the field for the first United States Open Amateur baseball tournament starting today at Angels Stadium in Palm Springs.
Other foreign teams participating in the nine-day round-robin tournament are Taiwan, South Korea and Australia. Also entered are four Southern California semipro clubs--the Orange County A’s, San Bernardino Pioneers, San Diego Stars and Ventura Royals.
Cuba, the defending world amateur champion, is making its first appearance in the United States in 25 years.
