‘Candle’ a Firecracker; Woman, 79, Injured

STOCKTON, Calif. —
A 79-year-old Stockton woman blew off the tips of the fingers on her left hand this morning when she lighted a firecracker she thought was a religious candle, authorities said.
Investigators speculated that Rita Sermillo’s grandchildren left the firecracker at her house, and it was inadvertently mixed in with her supply of religious candles.
