Jesse M. Davis Funeral to Be Wednesday

Funeral services will be Wednesday for Jesse M. Davis, a five-time mayor of Buena Park and current mayor pro tem who died Saturday after suffering a stroke.

A member of the City Council for 21 years, Davis, 67, died at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton after being stricken at his home.

Davis’ death was “not expected at all,” Buena Park Mayor Don Griffin said. “The stroke was absolutely unexpected and a complete shock to all of us.

“He was a friend of the whole community. A loyal supporter of Buena Park for many, many years. He will be missed dearly.”

Davis moved with his family from his native South Dakota to Anaheim when he was 3 months old. In 1945 he moved to Buena Park, where he became involved with city government and numerous civic groups. In addition, Davis was a member of several county and state groups, including the Orange County arterial highway finance program advisory committee and a special committee on flood prevention.

Davis is survived by his wife, Doris; three sons, Gary of Mission Viejo, Ron of Orange and Paul of Moraga, Calif.; one brother, Everette Davis, and four grandchildren.

Arrangements are being handled by Renaker-Klockgether Mortuary, 7651 Commonwealth Ave. in Buena Park. The funeral will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the First Congregational Church in Buena Park, with burial in Loma Vista Memorial Park in Fullerton.
