San Fernando Valley residents Saturday brought clothing, bedding and canned goods to Los Angeles City Councilman Howard Finn’s Sylmar field office for distribution to victims of Thursday’s disastrous earthquake in Mexico.

Finn’s office, 13241 Gladstone Ave. in the Sylmar Shopping Center, will be open from noon to 5 p.m. today to accept additional donations. The office also has a hot line, 362-7758, to help people interested in donating goods.

“We will accept all non-perishable goods that can be used by people in need,” said Anne Dunn, an administrative aide to Finn. The goods will be picked up from Finn’s office at noon Monday and be transported by truck to the Mexican Red Cross, Dunn said.

“The earthquake encouraged us to go through our closets and discard clothes that we don’t wear anymore,” said Sylmar resident Margaret Baron, who donated bedding, clothing and shoes.

San Fernando resident Rosie Maertz, who has relatives in Mexico whose whereabouts are unknown, brought children’s shoes and clothing.
