Volleyball Roundup : Titans Are 0-2 in PCAA After Losing Match to Las Vegas

Judy Bellomo and Denise Brooks combined for 37 kills Saturday to lead Nevada Las Vegas in a 15-7, 12-15, 15-8, 15-7 Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. victory over Cal State Fullerton at Las Vegas.

Bellomo led the Rebels (1-1, 5-4) with 21 kills and Brooks added 16.

Janet Kretschmer had 10 kills for Fullerton (0-2, 7-5).

In other volleyball action:

UC Santa Barbara 3, UC Irvine 1--The Anteaters (0-4) dropped their PCAA opener, 15-12, 15-13, 13-15, 15-9. Santa Barbara is 1-0 in PCAA play and 2-1 overall.

Ohio State 3, Chapman College 0--Chapman College lost to Ohio State, 8-15, 4-15, 9-15, in the consolation finals of the Brigham Young University Tournament.

Brenda Read of Chapman had 10 kills, two solo stuff blocks and two stuff block assists in the final, and teammate Pamela Burdue had 11 kills.

The University of Illinois defeated the University of Utah for the tournament championship, 15-11, 15-13, 15-12.

Chapman 3, Eastern Washington 1--The Panthers, behind the play of Pamela Burdue and Brenda Read, beat the Eagles, 2-15, 15-13, 15-4, 16-14, in the consolation semifinals.

St. Mary’s College 3, Southern California 2--St. Mary’s won the fifth game to defeat the Vanguards, 17-15, 15-3, 6-15, 3-15, 15-8.

The Vanguards dropped the first two games, but rallied behind the play of Stacy Golston, a sophomore from La Quinta High School.
