San Diego County coroners conducted an autopsy Friday on a partly decomposed body discovered by a farm worker in a field near the San Luis Rey River in Oceanside.
Authorities suspect the dead man may have been a Mexican national, but his identity had not been determined by late Saturday, according to Robert Engel, a deputy coroner.
No injuries were immediately evident when the body was exhumed, and Engel said it was possible the man died of natural causes and was buried by companions.
A farm worker found the partly exposed body Thursday as he was collecting wood in a field seven-tenths of a mile north of Mission and North Santa Fe avenues, Engel said.
