Pasadena : Bail Upheld for Sconce
A judge refused Wednesday to reduce the $500,000 bail for David Sconce, an operator of the Lamb Funeral Home, who faces numerous criminal counts in connection with the operation of the Pasadena mortuary, an Altadena crematorium, an unlicensed crematorium in Hesperia and an eye and tissue bank.
Earlier this month, Sconce was charged in Pasadena Municipal Court with 37 criminal counts, including mutilating corpses and removing body parts. In addition, Sconce was charged last week with four new felony counts, including assault, robbery and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The new charges, filed by Los Angeles County Deputy Dist. Atty. Walt Lewis, are in connection with Sconce’s alleged hiring of two people to beat up and rob another crematorium operator, Tim Waters. Witnesses said that Sconce had Waters beaten because Waters had spread rumors that Sconce performed multiple cremations.
Sconce also faces several charges in San Bernardino County, and his parents, Laurieanne Lamb and Jerry Sconce, face numerous criminal counts in connection with the Pasadena operations.
Sconce is being held in the Los Angeles County jail. His parents are free on $5,000 bail.
