Hilburn’s essay on the sorry state of radio music was excellent. When are Los Angeles radio listeners going to realize that the vast wasteland known as Los Angeles radio is as dry, empty and lifeless as the Mojave Desert? By appealing to the lowest common denominator, programmers have found a gold mine in the thoughtless bubble-gummed minds of most of the local listeners.

Once upon a time, there was KROQ. Once the happening station in the country, known for breaking new ground by showcasing new, experimental and exciting music, they too have lowered themselves into the mindless pro-disco vacuum and then insult us by calling it new rock or dance rock.

Rock? No way. KROQ then punishes its last adventuresome deejays (Dusty Street and Rodney Bingenheimer) by forcing them into the moronic playlists that someone thinks we want to hear.

The one oasis is KXLU, but unfortunately they are barely audible beyond the Loyola-Marymount campus.

Hey programmers! You’re starving us!
