National City Woman Killed During Struggle for Gun
A 32-year-old National City woman was shot and killed early Saturday morning during a dispute by a couple in her home, according to National City Police Detective Sgt. M.G. Tricker.
Police arrived at 12:20 a.m. at the home of Jema Griffy, 32, in the 900 block of Olive Street, and found she had been shot in the head.
Apparently, Elvira Black, 33, and her husband, Tony Black, no age given, were fighting in Griffy’s home, when Elvira Black pulled a gun and aimed it at her husband, Tricker said.
Two of Tony Black’s friends tried to disarm the woman, but in the struggle the gun was fired and Griffy shot, police said. Griffy was rushed to Paradise Valley Hospital where she died, according to Deputy Coroner Bill Leard.
Elvira Black was being held in Las Colinas detention center on suspicion of murder and attempted murder, Tricker said.
