Hawaii’s Auntie Malia

This tip from Hank Kovell, a regular contributor to our section: “A delightful little lady known in Hawaii as Auntie Malia gives free lessons in quilting and ancient Hawaiian games on the mezzanine floor of the Hyatt Regency in Waikiki. Demonstrations of folk art/ancient crafts. She operates a shop (mini-museum) that’s staffed by her and her two daughters. A good spot to escape the frenetic pace of Waikiki.” Kovell says Auntie Malia “is an authority in the ancient art of tapa cloth making as well.”
