Angolan guerrillas said they shot down a Soviet-made transport plane over eastern Angola last week, killing all aboard, including the plane’s Soviet crew. A statement issued in Lisbon by the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) said the rebels downed an Antonov 26 cargo plane near the village of Kazombo, in eastern Moxico province, on Dec. 18. The statement did not specify how many people were killed. The rebels said last month that they shot down a Soviet Ilyushin cargo plane in Bie province, killing the Soviet crew, but there was no independent confirmation of that attack.
