Producer Joseph Papp’s New York Shakespeare Festival has announced that three non-Shakespearean shows scheduled to be produced at the Public Theater this season will be canceled, cutting the total number of the company’s productions to 15. Blaming the Oct. 19 stock market crash for the company’s current cash flow problems, company officials said the changes were part of an effort to save about $700,000. The canceled works are “Berlinale,” a comedy by film maker Paul Schrader; “Investigation of a Murder in El Salvador” by Charles L. Mee Jr., and two one-act plays by August Strindberg.
