The World : $6-Million Ransom Frees 2

Share

Kidnapers collected $6 million in ransom for two children of the owner of a West German drugstore chain, Anton Schlecker. Both the boy, 16, and the girl, 14, were freed unharmed after the kidnapers fled the Schlecker house near Stuttgart with the largest ransom ever paid in West Germany. After breaking into the house Tuesday, one of the kidnapers took the children to a forest cabin while two others in the hooded gang remained with the parents until the ransom money was brought to the home. Schlecker waited to alert police until after the kidnapers drove off in his car with the ransom, then telephoned to report where the children could be found.
