Pomona College Receives Ford Foundation Grant

Pomona College has received a $150,000 Ford Foundation grant to participate in a program aimed at addressing a nationwide shortage of college and university teachers and researchers.

The three-year program is aimed at enhancing the skills and commitment of undergraduate students, thus expanding their potential for academic careers.

Forty-one schools were invited to submit program proposals, said Peter Stanley, head of the foundation’s education and culture program, with selection “on the basis of the strength and balance of their academic programs, the proportion of undergraduates who go on to earn doctorates and pursue careers in academe.”

Harvard, Brown, Earlham and Princeton also were selected for program grants.
