The happiness and longevity of that relationship helped belie simplistic Freudian charges of lesbianism being a knee-jerk reaction to male-induced trauma.

Far from being an institution for women hiding from an inability to relate to males due to their observations of cruel or limited-scope male behavior during childhood or adolescence, it is a most thrilling, empowering, peace-giving free choice.
